Patient Advocacy students and staff joined forces with others in the College of Science to help launch Notre Dame’s first participation in the Global Chain of Lights initiative. To shine a light on those impacted by rare disease, Jordan Hall of Science and the Word of Life Mural at the Hesburgh Library were illuminated in Rare Disease Day colors on Tuesday, February 28 for the global observance of Rare Disease Day. Upon the lighting of the Mural, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. provided a prayer for rare disease patients and their families, and those who work tirelessly to provide healing and hope. Students from the Minor in Science and Patient Advocacy, RareND Club, and those enrolled in BIOS 40450: Clinical Research in Rare and Neglected Diseases helped with outreach efforts and decorated over 200 luminaries that were also lit and displayed in the Jordan Hall Galleria to show support for rare disease patients and their families.
