On Thursday, February 24, RareND welcomed Gabe Donovan and his mother to speak to the student club. Gabe is a high school senior living with the rare genetic condition Neurofibromatosis-1 (NF-1) which causes multiple tumors along the nerves in the skin, brain, and rest of the body. During the event, club members and guests enjoyed pizza and fruit while learning about NF-1, from a presentation by RareND club member, Andrew. After the presentation, Gabe talked frankly about the challenges of growing up and living with a life-threatening illness. The conversation developed into an account of  Gabe’s life-changing experiences at Double H Ranch, a summer camp for children with serious illnesses. Donovan also discussed action and policy changes he’d like to help develop regarding disability inclusion.
